Thomas Jefferson was U.S third president. He was a tall man with a full face of freckles. He served two years as president. He is known as a voice for Independence and an early champion of democracy. In Thomas Jefferson's first term as president, he made an important decision to buy the Louisiana Purchase.

He was born in the Virginia colonies on April 13, 1743 with a wealthy plantation family. He had nine siblings and throughout his life, he would like to read books and explore the woods and likes to study. Later on, years going by in 1760 he enrolled in a college called William and Mary. Throughout, what is going on, President George Washington decided to stop being as president and retire at the end of his second term., because he believed a calm transition of power from one to another president was important for the success of a young country's democracy. No one but himself, Jefferson wanted to become the nation's next leader. As he was trying to become the next president, sadly Jefferson lost the election to John Adams in 1796. He was still vice president because he received the second highest number of votes. After four years of John Admas as being president, Jefferson decided to run up against Adam. Thomas Jefferson decided to organize some expeditions to explore the new land. Lewis and Clark was the most famous expedition. They both traveled up to the Missouri River and all the way to the Pacific Ocean. In 1804, is where it all began, President Jefferson asked Meriwether Lewis to explore the lands west of the Mississippi River but also with the Louisiana Purchase. Meriwether decided to choose William Clark as his co-leader for the expedition. Meriwether Lewis was born in Virginia in 1774, but he mostly spent his whole childhood in Georgia. During his life, someday he returned to Virginia as a teenager to get his education and he graduated from college in 1793. Lewis did so many things like he joined the Virginia state militia and also with the regular army. He served with Lewis and he got commissioned by President George. At the time, in 1796 William Clark returned home and decided to manage his family estate. Lewis chose him to join on the excursion that would help America’s history. Although Clark was Lewis superior, Lewis in fact was mostly in charge of the trip.
