In the time of segregation and most of all racism, we had leaders who devoted a great time of their lives to make not only colored people's’ lives better, but for everyone. Leaders, such as the ones I am going to talk about today. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., were both very good leaders of the civil rights movement and later became martyrs. Although both had good intentions, they both had very different methods of accomplishing what they wanted to do. MLK Jr. wanted everyone at peace ; integration. While Malcolm X wanted separation from the whites. Malcolm X wanted the blacks to be… superior. had many ideas and methods to come to his goal of integration, and all in the way of nonviolence. He came across a lot of difficulties during the use of this method, but still stood his ground. Such as in the sit-ins, taken place in 1960. It happened in 7 states and more than 50,000 students participated in these sit-ins, where students sat in segregated public places such as diners and markets, waiting to be served, in a nonviolent manner. These were all key tactics for MLK Jr. , so that integration may happen someday. He had many other tactics, as stated here, in his interview with Playboy. He stated, “We have five aims: first, to stimulate nonviolent, direct, mass action to expose and remove the barriers of segregation and discrimination: second, to disseminate the creative philosophy and techniques of nonviolence through local and area workshops; third, to secure the right and unhampered use of the ballot for every citizen; fourth, to achieve full citizenship rights, and the total integration of the Negro into American life; and fifth, to reduce the cultural lag through our citizenship training program.” As you can see, he had more goals than to just achieve social equality. He wanted equality for everything and everyone, every way imaginable. His march on Washington, for equality in jobs, his bus boycott, all succeeded. All of his protest in nonviolent ways. For example, the result to his bus boycott was tremendously successful. They stopped riding the bus and they succeeded to take away segregation on buses. His results of his march on Washington was a big success too. His famous “I Have A Dream… “ speech was given and taken up on account to many people of the United States. His methods to succeed integration everywhere, was accomplished and all in a manner of nonviolence. Till today the African American is looked at differently. Some may be still ignorant, but what can one say when an African American has accomplished to be the President of the United States ? One can let the people be oppressed by society’s enemies. We must take a course of nonviolent action, such as MLK Jr. . His dream has come true, but it is still just a big step to complete integration among
