The idea of Earthbound is fundamental, an earthly concerned and restricted to land. The ideology of the Earthbound derived from Bruno Latour in Facing Gaia has shown the importance of nature within the environment. The modern world being confined with advancements and technologies is an elaboration of the origin philosophy of Latour. In relation, the movies The Martian and Interstellar has correlation to Latour’s theory of Earthbound. Both movies shows the future world of Anthropocene. To expand, the idea of Anthropocene defines through human activities denoting the Earth’s environment. Thus, the movies shows a different point of view on Anthropocene. The ideology is different, yet it is similar in its own ways. The Martian takes place in a …show more content…

In comparison, the movies both had a mission to travel in space. However, the conflict is slightly different where The Martian takes place on Mars to save a human being that was stranded while in Interstellar, space traveling is to find a new colonization to save the human populations. The differences between the two movies is saving one person in Space versus saving the whole population on Earth through traveling in space. By Bruno Latour’s description of Earthbound versus Human conflict, the sets of homo sapiens in Interstellar is to inhabit a world creating interactions with other non-humans. In contrast, The Martian is focused on saving the humans on Earth and their survival instincts when challenges appear. Therefore, in the relation of Latour’s theory on Earthbound of human impact, in the movie Interstellar is more dramatized than The Martian in the conflict on the idea of …show more content…

The movie shows the evolution of the future through Anthropocene, a new epoch. The future Earth is shown as a dry place where dust storms occur often with limited resources on crops causing human crisis. The Earth has collapsed due to the idea of Anthropocene, “the Earth may react to our actions bothers today’s intellectual elites” (Latour, 189). The natural world is strictly reliant on the activities of Humans. In the case of Interstellar, it is shown that the scientific advancements put into an effect creating environmental damages to Earth. In Latour’s theory, he states that Earth is bothered by the actions of humans. With this intention, the scientific counter-revolution becomes universal. While Earthbound is affected, Humans are also being affected since the world is universal, likewise infinite. As shown in the movie Interstellar, the world is going in circles. For instance, the dusty climate and the decay of resources were led from the scientific studies in animation and deamination causing a totality damage on Earth. Latour focuses on the climate changes that mainly causes extinctions of organisms one by one, “The more climate skeptics maintain the old idea of a Science spread more or less everywhere without costs… more climatologists are compelled in turn to keep foregrounding the scientific institutions” (Latour, 215). In this case, the environment, climate, science, and
