Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a movie created for joy and comedy to the British nation. It was a spin on the tales of Morte d’ Arthur. Morte d’ Arthur is a complex story of the battles and chivalrous adventures of King Arthur all up until his death. Monty Python created a mock film to entertain fans of the story. It contains all characters of the story in the film and portrays the comedic tone towards it. One of the main subjects discussed both in the film and Morte d’ Arthur was the chivalric code and the knightly behavior.

As much as the Monty Python was a mock film, it introduced many scenes where a knight was tested for his chivalric code. The knights were examined on their bravery, loyalty, and honesty to themselves and their king along with other knightley behaviors. In Morte d’ Arthur, the king was challenged to a battle between himself and the Green Knight. Well ironically, during the film King Arthur ran into a battle of the Black Knight and the Green Knight where the Black Knight won and he tested King Arthur to battle in order to pass through his land. All of the knights on the quest for the Holy Grail are tested on their knowledge when attempting to cross a bridge. It is towards the end of the film where King Arthur and his army of knights approach a bridge, but in order to cross it, they must answer all 3 questions truthfully. Sir Lancelot was the first one to answer the questions, showing his bravery to put himself first. It also shows, mockingly, his wisdom and knowledge due to the fact that the questions were immature. The questioned consisted of his name, his quest, and his favorite color, all questions which are simply answered.
