In The Blue Hotel the main character learns that he is his own worst enemy. He learns that there are consequences for his actions. His actions such as honesty, fear, and hustling gets him into big trouble. In Tennessee’s Partner the main character learns he is his own worst enemy. Also in this story you learn that society has its own set of rules for everyone to follow. You also learn that Love and Friendship conquers all.
In comparison with these two stories there are so many similarities that you can identify with. Some of the main themes are, you can be your own worst enemy, your actions have consequences, and lastly society “the judge” has its own rules. However, there many differences in the two stories and it all depends on the reader to see what those differences are. The authors of these two stories don’t just want you to feel and see the same points of the story but to also come to your own conclusion about what the two stories are about. They have no set plot the authors want you to find what each story brings to your mind. Through imagery, the reader's mind can run wild with what exactly would cause the Swede in the The Blue Hotel to just suddenly go off and start to assume that every hotel in the west especially in Nebraska has had someone murdered in every room. Swede was a very honest and outspoken and that is what got him murdered. The Swede has read so many stories about the West is wild and full of murders. Although he didn’t realize that he wasn’t really in the Wild West just the midwest. Although, the swede wanted to play cards and was right about the hotel owner’s son was cheating.
