Happiness is something humans have been pursuing for centuries. The quest for happiness is so cemented in the minds of human beings that it has been used as a method of control, and as a weapon against others. Humans are moths, ever drawn to the distant flame of joy. Over the past year I have learned much about this pursuit that has plagued humans for millennia. Pieces of literature like The Great Gatsby, Of Mice and Men and The Devil and Tom Walker all explore this pursuit in unique and diverse ways.
Before Europeans even knew of the Americas there were Indians. The Indians had diverse cultures and conflicts with each other. There were hundreds of different groups of Indians. Most hated each other and killed each other. Some sought to get beyond murder and cannibalism.
Happiness exists not only as an emotion, but as a state of mind. Before Adam and Eve sinned, they are said to be happy and content because they lived in a world where emotions such as envy and greed did not exist. Because they sinned, the world they knew fell, and humans have lived in the world of non-happiness from then until the present. The two stories of creation we 're very similar in both Christianity, and the Iroquois. They both had the same outline, but each of them added their own personal twists that made it their own. When reading the origin myth from the Cherokee, it is clear that animals and plants were valued for assisting in creating the earth, receiving special gifts, and sharing the land with humans. First, they had different social systems; the ancient Greek divided their social systems into five categories: slaves, freedmen, metics, citizens and women , and in the ancient Greek women were not given a position they were like to be less than slaves, but in the ancient Roman civilization they dived into four categories: freedmen, slaves, plebians and patricians, and women were considered citizen if they were not born into slavery, however they were not able to hold any position or vote. Second, The ancient Greek created and developed the three famous classical orders which is Doric, Ionic and Corinthian, On the other hand Ancient Roman took the classical order with making minor differences and created the arch and used it in their buildings.

Being a Christian I feel inclined to believe that there was a time that happiness could be found without having to feel the opposite. Before the fall of Adam and Eve they experienced happiness and true friendship with God. While they were in the Garden of Eden everything was perfect, they experienced nothing but God’s love until original sin. But now that we are living with original sin, I do think pain and sadness emphasizes the happiness we do feel.
