The Black Death: Were Muslims and Christians responses different? When it comes to dealing with The Black Death, the way Christians and Muslims handled the situation was very different. Christians and Muslims did not even make it look similar to each other when dealing with the plague it was so different. Before the Plague hit Europe almost everything especially things of daily life were under the influence of the church. The most important thing from this was that the church always taught right from wrong. The afterlife was pretty much more important than the actual life they were living at the time. This was considered essential to be given the last chance to make sure all sins were gone and to make sure of your salvation. Christian groups turned to contrition and prayed for salvation. In case you are wondering what contrition means it is the repentance of past sins during or after a confession. The muslim groups turned to debauchery and increased their sinful behavior. Debauchery means “excessive indulgence in sensual pleasures”. Also the Muslims pretty much argued that nothing even mattered anymore if everyone was going to die. There were a couple of things that was considered a possible solutions to the problem of the Black Death. Those things were Superstitions, scapegoats, religious fervour, and fanaticism. Another group of people believed that ringing the church bell would drive the disease away. The bell was rung in all different kinds of crises.
Some people expressed their feelings and thoughts about death and the afterlife in art. They would use poetry, sculpting, and painting. Even today this is the three main types of art we use. People would choose one to do or even all of these ways of art to express their
