The conflicts between the North and the South were significant, but how these conflicts were resolved was exceptional. The abolition of slavery, for instance, caused many civic problems and issues. Nevertheless, the way these conflicts were resolved was controversial, and some were successful, and the extent of effort it takes for some was dramatic. A civic issue was about slavery, which was why the country broke in half, the North (the Union) and the South (the Confederacy). The controversy took place throughout the 19th century. Slavery was an idea where people owned people and made these people do their work instead of them doing the work. The purpose of this document would be to free all enslaved people. This document said that there would abstain from all violence and, if they were to do any labor, be paid reasonable wages. Unfortunately, this addresses effectiveness only came years after in the form of amendment XII. So the success of the Emancipation Proclamation was less successful than the amendment because it took its significance after a while. The second effort made by the government was when congress passed amendment XII on January 31, 1865, but it was ratified on December 6, 1865. This amendment freed all enslaved people in all states and abolished the act of slavery in all and could now be punishable for any non-involuntary servitude. This effort, over time, marked the end of slavery all over the United States and united the Confederacy back with the Union, but this also caused a chain of racism throughout the country.
