Introduction Often when crime is discussed, murder, loot, rape, and assault are the first to come up; however, when all of these crimes occur in an organized and ‘legal’ manner, they are overlooked.
Though it is not discussed in depth, and often goes unacknowledged within the international community, genocide plays a vast role in our understanding of society and culture as a whole. Through the course of this paper, I will be using an intersectional lens to analyze and evaluate the construction and execution of genocide. I will sociologically analyze the construction and execution of genocide and analyze the ways in which social categories such as ethnicity, social class, and religion are connected to this issue. I will also discuss the impact of genocide to my own indirect experiences, and critically evaluate a solution to alleviate the aftermath of genocide. It is important to observe the events of the genocide with an overlapping lens, for a developed understanding of why genocide occurs, furthermore, how it is a social problem. Introducing genocide and seeing how religion plays a part shows one conflict; however when observing the impact of religion and social class as a whole, it is evident that these factors are interlinked.
