Mulan Disney Movie vs. The Legend of Mulan
In China during the Northern Wei dynasty that lasted from 386A.D. to 534A.D. Hua Mulan lived but we all know about her story from the famous Disney movie “Mulan”. The Disney movie helps kids learn her story but is not the best source for the real facts. There are many differences between Mulan's’ legend and the “Mulan” Disney movie.
The legend of Mulan tells us that Hua Mulan lived during the Northern Wei dynasty. She was very skilled in martial arts and never brought dishonor to her family. She was an only child which became a problem when the emperor requested a man from every family to fight against the invading Mongols and nomadic tribes. She took her father’s place in the army to fight the war
