The early Virginia and New England colonies differed politically, socially, and economically due to the situations that the settlers faced. Throughout many of the letters written about some of the experiences of the earlier settlers, one can easily see a major difference in the way of life of the two colonies. Although many of these colonies differed in the way of life, each colony faced some similar things that they each had to overcome. These challenges made a massive difference in the way that each of the colonies started out and directly influenced the future for both colonies. However, the diversity among the New England Colonies, the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies is perhaps what made them so distinctive. The differences between these three regions affected the way they lived, but later, they gained knowledge by analyzing their mistakes and differences. Although these three regions only had a few things in common, it was the differences among them that helped them grow and learn from one another.

New England colonists had a strong family work ethic, birth rates were high, and education was valued.

The colonies were referred to as the “Bread Colonies” because of its economic prominence in producing wheats and grains. It had better quality soil than the New England colonies which was rocky and very unfertile. William Penn, who was a Quaker, founded and Philadelphia which means, “City of Brotherly Love.” The Middle colonies were the most religiously tolerant in comparison to the other two regions because the Quakers were populous, and were so accepting of all other culture and religions. In addition, The Middle colonies had the most ethnically diverse with settlers from around all Europe and many other places.
There all people were treated better but still some enslaved, only 7% by 1750. The slaves were not treated as property but were not considered whole. These colonies were called the breadbasket colonies because of their abundance grains. The middle colonies were the best at all things if you summed it up with being good at trading, fishing, industrial building, and others but not great. They were also the most diverse.
