I couldn't hear the words, but I could hear the sound—his heavy, hard voice going on and on. Then there was Sam's voice and he was shouting, too, and then Father again”, (Collier and Collier). It also creates death which results in permanently split families apart. This shows how war tears and breaks families apart. Splitting families apart is the final reason why war is futile.
”There are three types of people in this world: sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. ”The sheep are the good but naive people and are therefore vulnerable, the wolves are the evil ones who prey on these good ‘helpless’ people, and the sheepdogs are the strong one, “the rare breed who live to confront the wolf”, who are there to protect the good people – the sheep. This is the movies central moral metaphor, and it is seen all throughout the film, a classic battle between good and evil. American Sniper is an American biographical war drama film, directed by Clint Eastwood and written by Jason Hall. To many people take the toll of war,to many lives have been taken from the toll of war. “In the place that I come from, society was composed of three simple categories: the killers, the victims, and the bystanders.” Powerful, the way this quote is structured is powerful. The wording here sets a powerful image of what was happening and how people knew and they didn’t do anything, and that they are just as guilty as those committing the crimes. “When adults wage war, children perish.” If there is one thing that good people can agree on, it’s the innocence of children.
Even though this small quote is three words, this really sums up the main idea of "Wars hurt the innocent" well. I say this because the people of South Africa have never really felt "Away from home" like in the book they said and how they must leave their homes. I think people saying "Away from home" when their country is at war, really shows that wars hurt the innocent. The final quote I found is, "Into the bush. Do you hear me?
Everywhere you look there is thrill and peril, every time you think you’re safe there is murder and treason in The Runaway King. The author of The Runaway King is Jennifer A. Nielsen. In the book The Runaway King, Jaron the King of Carthya evades assassination and sets off on a journey on to keep the Crown and stop the ever coming war. Treason, murder, thrills, and peril are all present in the plot, setting, and characters in The Runaway King.
A significant theme in the text The Sniper by Liam O’Flaherty that has been communicated is the tragedy and futility of war. The theme highlighted teaches the message that war is pointless. By saying this, the author explains that going to war and fighting over an ideology is futile and will end in suffering, hurt and grief. The author expresses this message by highlighting the fact that innocent civilians will die, and people’s loved ones will be taken from them, which will result in no one winning the war because of the deep human impact. While reading this text, we learn many messages.
“Mankind must put an end to war before war puts an end to mankind.” President John Fitzgerald Kennedy said to the United Nations General Assembly, on September 25th, 1961. This quote is saying that the killing of soldiers in war will soon destroy all. This relates to both stories because both soldiers regretted killing someone.
This shows how the sniper’s actions without thought affect him for the worse. O’Flaherty establishes the theme of “The Sniper” by using description and irony. After the sniper turns over the dead body, he realizes what he has done. He was not thinking when he shot the enemy.
This violence was brought about by assumption, when really they were brothers all along. The sniper realizes, and regrets his actions at the end. War and conflict is about protecting loved ones, and about defending your rights and liberties, but we must be careful not to let these conflicts blind our minds with assumption, or violence will destroy
In “The Sniper” the sniper becomes joyous when he hits his target after successfully fooling him. In paragraph 19 it says: “The republican sniper smiled and lifted his revolver above the edge of the parapet.” Although the main characters anchors in both stories motivates them to do what they believe to be right, they also have a sadistic side to them that shows up later in the
In Thomas Hardy’s “The Man He Killed”, the actual speaker the story originated from is a soldier who kills an opposing soldier, but since the whole poem is in quotation marks, the speaker might be a person who has heard of the soldier’s stories. In the poem, the soldier talks about what would happen if he had met the opposing soldier in a bar and how they will have a great time. Instead, the soldier is enlisted in the army and is on the battlefield because he was out of work just like the opposing soldier he shot. At the end of the poem, the soldier questions the irony of the war and how things can be different “had he and I but met/ By some old ancient inn”.
In the poem “The Man He Killed” by Thomas Hardy, the author is describing the identity of a man, when there is a situation where a man has to take a decision in a split second without having hesitation. In the poem, there was some situation a man had to take an action in a split second when he was fighting with his foe “live or die”. For example, each and every individual has some circumstance where they risk their own life or they do whatever it takes to survive in society. Exactly, in this poem a man meets with his some unknown foe and furthermore, the situation made him to face his foe in the front battle, where they can see each other face. Unfortunately, that moments when they were aiming each other the man shot his foe to his death without
In the short story The Sniper by Liam O’Flaherty, a main theme is that war is cruel. This is supported by many details within the story. War makes people do things that they normally wouldn’t do, mostly because it is their duty to protect what they believe in or their country. For example, the
Now, the Sniper regrets telling his family what happened. Although the rest of the family supports his mother’s idea, his father could win the argument. He is described as a “psycho killer” since he was accused of first-degree murder when the Sniper was young. The Sniper was afraid of the punishment so he decided to return to the army again to serve another
