the Holocaust. African Americans and Jews have both been oppressed for centuries. Oppression for the African Americans started when europeans brought them to America for cheap labor. Oppression for the jews started when Hitler came into power and took away Jews rights. As I started to study the two groups, I realized that African-Americans and Jews have many similarities, but they also have many differences. African Americans were brought to America by slave traders in the 17th century. They later earned their rights in the civil rights movement. Though technically they were equal with whites, they were still heavily discriminated against all the way up to the 1980s. In the deep south, many whites were angry that African Americans were equal with them, so they introduced the Jim Crow Laws, laws that stated that African Americans couldn’t go to the same schools, go in the same bathrooms or even live in some of the same towns as whites. They were both discriminated against. African Americans were not seen as citizens, they were stolen from their homelands and had to work long, hard hours without pay. Jews slowly lost their rights to the point to where they were put in concentration camps and killed. They both also had people that were against the discrimination. In America, abolitionist wanted to have slavery banned, some people let African Americans take refuge in their houses. Many people were against the persecution of the jews, like African Americans, many people let them take sanctuary in hidden rooms in their houses. Another thing that they have in common is that persecution of African Americans and Jews both led to wars. The Civil War was inadvertently caused by slavery. Tensions between the north and the south led to the breakup of the union. The persecution of the jews caused many countries to join the fight against the Axis
