There are numerous of contrasts and comparisons that is throughout the stories “Zero Hour” and The War of the Worlds. Both stories’ events and characters are vaguely similar, but also somewhat different. The two stories slightly have the same effect but the characters tend to take care of the situations uniquely. In “Zero Hour” the character Mink was practically mesmerised by Martians just so that can take over Earth. In The War of the Worlds, the narrator was horrified that unexpectedly Martians started to shoot Heat-Rays. Both stories reveal that Martians wanted to take over Earth and they wanted to hurt and or kill people just to win over Earth for themselves.

For example, in “Zero Hour”, Mink mentions to her mom, “... Martians invading Earth…” (Bradbury 249). This piece of text evidence manifests that even before the invasion happened, Mink knew that the Martians were coming, just that her mom didn’t really pay attention to her. At the end, they did come. However in The War of the Worlds, when the narrator sees the Martians he says,“Quickly...four of the armed Martians appeared, far away over the little trees…” (Wells 268). This also conveys that the Martians had appeared. These two pieces of evidence show the comparison of how the Martian invasion from the character’s perspective are similar. The difference is that both of the stories had Martians that invaded their territory or home, but the Martians in “Zero Hour” appeared in the futuristic American neighborhood while in “The War of the Worlds”, the Martians appeared in the past. In “Zero Hour”, the author explains, “Bradbury’s story takes place in a futuristic American neighborhood,” (Bradbury page number). In The War of the Worlds Wells mentions, “...town… Chertsey… boats… soldiers…” (page number). One story’s event’s setting is in the future while the other is in the past. The similarity is that the Martians did not just invade one person in both stories, but they invaded many. For example, in “Zero Hour”, the author determines, “There were other explosions in other yards on other streets.” This establishes that the Martians were attack others, not just Mr. and Mrs. Morris. In The War of the Worlds, the author wrote, “Quickly one after another, one, two, three, four of the armed Martians appeared…” (Wells pages).
