The American sauce – Idealism, and a dream come true?
The United States of America is a diverse salad bowl of history, culture, religion, idealism and ethnicity. On top of the salad, there is a sweet sauce of American values that distinguishes this particular recipe from the rest. With a rich history of immigration and cultural differences, defining an American is not an easy task. Ideals and mindsets that resonate with the majority of Americans form a national feeling of pride and independence, and all Americans hope of a better life through hard work shrinks down to, what is called, the American Dream. Individualism, Patriotism and the American Dream are all essential to being an American.
Individualism is a highly valued attribute among Americans, and it is a central part of stereotypical Americanism. Not depending on anyone else and putting food on the table for your family through individual effort, is greatly admired. This mentality of being independent, self-reliant and self-sustaining stems from the earliest days of American history. When the religious pioneers settled in the west to preserve their religious freedom, they had to face the hardships of mother nature all by themselves.
