Americanism can be defined in many different ways. In Theodore Roosevelt’s speech, “True Americanism”, he portrays his idea of what Americanism means. Throughout his speech, Roosevelt uses rhetorical strategies to persuade people to unite regardless of a person’s race or religious beliefs to create a strong, powerful country. Roosevelt uses appeal to identity to create the appeal of pathos.
America is known as the “Land of the free, home of the brave,” and as Americans, we are both free and brave. Americans take a stand, sticking to their values no matter the consequences. Their unbridled willpower makes Americans a force to be reckoned with and the forerunners of change, good and bad. This change appears as feminism, activism, free speech, capitalism, civil rights, and social justice.
Let me explain: Today, America faces turmoil daily on topics relating to race, religion, gender, and so on. If somebody were to ask me, “What would you do to promote Americanism?” I would answer with two very simple words- share love. Hate seems to have overtaken this entire nation quickly and, suddenly, the pride of being an American has lost value. People feel embarrassed to associate with a country so full of hate, a country that should be known for tolerance, but instead has become known for hate and “race
America’s society has some distinctive characteristics that separate it from that of the rest of the world. Although diverse, the American society is unified in the number of traits that they all share. All American citizens value their individuality as well as their equality. Americans are not afraid to voice their opinions or to oppose something that they disagree with. If there is something that is not right, Americans will not hesitate to work towards positive change of that cause.
To be an american you must act live as an american, so be free, strong, and courageous. Being american is best understood by the way of life as an American. Since the birth of america, Americans have fought for what they thought was right and to fulfill a dream or their manifest destiny. From the start of America we acted on the human rights and set ourselves free and formed the idea of freedom and strength in America. With the Amendments established our freedoms like the first amendment Freedom of expression which states “the First Amendment means that government has no power to restrict expression because of its message, its ideas, its subject matter, or its content” as said by Thurgood Marshall.
Being an american is more than just how you look or how you act, its also shown by your accomplishments in life and by the hard work you’ve put in to where you are now. There are many pros for being an american but you just don't become an american by living in america. Each and every single person has to earn the title of being an american by the goals that they seek to accomplish, the type of education that they are receiving, and the hard work that they put in, into every single thing they do. To begin with, one thing that defines an american are by the dreams and goals that they set out to achieve in the future. American are always trying to improve themselves and to exceed in life by working hard in their education.
Based on Declaration of Independence, Americans take on the “American Dream”. The idea of the American dream is based on a fantasy that an individual can achieve success regardless of family history, race, or religion just by simply working hard enough. Americans have this belief because they are protected by the above document. They believe that they are entitled to achieve their dreams because they can.
One of the explanations that means to be an American is to help others. It can be a neighbor, a friend’s friend, a stranger, or a homeless person on the side of the street. Helping everyone out is a way of showing that

The American Dream is a statement that gives people hope for a better life such as immigrants from other countries who have horrible life styles and they come to America to be an American. Being American is having love for his or her country regardless of your race by living the American Dream of hard work and a good life. Patrotism is the idea of a person who defends and fights for their country. Some examples are people who fight in their military becaue they fight to keep our country safe from outside invaders who want to take away our freedom and rights.
Have you ever been asked how you can promote Americanism? When we think of Americanism we think of people serving our country. Now down basics, we have liberty and justice. We use that liberty by keeping the people together.
When I first started writing this essay I had no idea about how to promote Americanism, with me being your normal fourteen year old girl. Then I did what many of my peers would do, I googled it for ideas, but nothing caught my attention. At that moment, I decided I wouldn’t write the essay, but then today at my Veterans Day program I realized that there are plenty of things I can do to promote Americanism. I hadn’t realized how truly lucky I am to live here in America, and I realized that’s what true Americanism is. Promoting Americanism isn’t about doing big, flashy things for popularity, or to look good.
What is the American dream? America always had that impact in other countries, as the land of dreams, opportunity, freedom of speech, and the list goes on and on. The American dream is an illusion that is deeply implanted in the minds of the people, it sets a bar for life achievement and offers hope to work hard to achieve their dreams. As for Americans, they are raised in a society to where they are expected to make lots money and to have a healthy family. After all in our society success is largely based off positions of power and financial stability. For example, in The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, there were multiple interpretations of the ideal American dream in the 1920s. In the 1920s, due to the growth of materialism, people advertised and fancied the power of money to fulfilling their dreams.
