Americans want to investigate, judge, and punish fairly (Cole & Smith, 2011). Justice is defined as the proper administration of the law; fair and equitable treatment of all individuals under the law (Justice, 2008). As a society, there is a mutual agreement that justice should be done if a crime has been committed. According to Cole and Smith (2011), there are three goals of the criminal justice system: doing justice, controlling crime and preventing crime.
What did it mean to be an American in the early 1800`s. Being an American means having pride and unity in one’s country and to care for his or hers country. In America they have weird and unusual art styles starting from folk art to portraits. They don’t know what art really is back in France we could make better art with our eyes closed.
American Exceptionalism was coined by Alexis de Tocqueville in his book Democracy in America. To illustrate how the American way of thought is superior to the other ways of the world, Tocqueville expresses that the American way of thought is distinctively unique and special. This distinction is exemplified through liberty, egalitarianism, individualism, populism, and Laissez-Faire Economics. These qualities prove America’s exceptionality and difference from other countries. Although American Exceptionalism originated in the early 1800s, the idyllic values Tocqueville paints in his book can be seen throughout American history.
The actual definition of American is relating to, or characteristic of the United States or its inhabitants. Being proud of who you are and the place you live. Americans have defined themselves not by their racial, religious, and ethnic identity but by their common values and belief in individual freedom. An American says the Pledge of Allegiance and understands that voting is important to Democracy, individually Americans value freedom and are proud citizens, and the freedom of human right.
Let me explain: Today, America faces turmoil daily on topics relating to race, religion, gender, and so on. If somebody were to ask me, “What would you do to promote Americanism?” I would answer with two very simple words- share love. Individuals lay the foundation of America. The Founding Fathers of this unique nation broke their allegiance with Great Britain to create an improved governing body. They desired an individual-centered authority as opposed to Britain’s monarchy, which ruled with tyranny. These Founding Fathers experienced a neglectful democratic monarchy that cared little about the ethical treatment of its people. The domineering actions of Britain challenged these historic individuals to form a new cultural identity.
America’s society has some distinctive characteristics that separate it from that of the rest of the world. Although diverse, the American society is unified in the number of traits that they all share. All American citizens value their individuality as well as their equality. Americans are not afraid to voice their opinions or to oppose something that they disagree with. If there is something that is not right, Americans will not hesitate to work towards positive change of that cause.

Also have the liberty to work wherever you want not be someone 's slave. Being American means you don 't have to hide your religion, the color of your skin or your sex. In some of the pieces of literature like “I, Too, Sing America,” “America and I,” “The Bill of Rights,” and “Veterans Day: Never Forget Their Duty” the authors have different ideas of what it means to be American. They also express their ideas using different strategies: negation, classification, and function. With these ideas and strategies a more complex definition on what it means to be American was developed. Being an American means being patriotic, having freedoms, and believing in a dream of something amazing. Having patriotism is part of being American.
Americanism brings people together, but can also be the cause of disagreement and argument. But in a world full of people all having different dreams, hopes, and opinions, where is my place to make a difference?What can I, one person, do to promote Americanism? America is all about being an individual and living the way you want to live even with that being the case in America we still have our minds controlled through music, television, and social media. Those things tell us what is in and what we should do, what is considered pretty and what is considered ugly, not letting people create their own ideas and conceptions of things. When you ask a non American “What does America mean to you?” , they will more often than not answer with hamburgers, obesity, NFL and Reality TV. That is okay because who doesn 't love hamburgers and football filled Sundays, who doesn 't love watching silly reality TV shows and who doesn 't love a cheat day every once in awhile? Those people are judging a book by its cover and fortunately for me… well my thoughts about America are quite different. When an individual asks me “What does America mean to you?”
Establishing justice makes things fair for all people by giving them equal rights. Insuring “domestic Tranquility” insures that our country will be a safe place within the Borders of our Country. For the most part this is done through Law enforcement and the District, appellate and Supreme Courts. Then there is Providing for the Common defense which is pretty self explanatory. The United States Military handles this job.
