Goebbels became the Minister of Propaganda and Public Information. His main goal was to build up Hitler’s public imagine and “Nazify the German Culture (“How Did the Nazis Use Propaganda”).” Goebbels even controlled the kind of books that the German’s read. Any books that did not glorify Hitler and the Nazi culture were burned.
In, "The Boys Who Fought The Nazis" by Kristin Lewis, Information was a powerful tool, to both the Nazis and the boys. To the Nazis, controlling information given to the public was key to keeping power. For the boys, gathering and spreading information was the only way they could rebel against the Nazi power. The Nazis needed to keep information hidden and controlled to keep their power. Hitler came to power by using blame and hate against groups to gather support from Germans, and kept power by controlling what the public was told.

However this is clearly synthesized to make him appear like a good leader because the truth of his rule can been seen in the high death toll and immediately after his death began the de-Stalinization process throughout Soviet society showing that Russia wished to be rid of his presence in history. The Great Purge was to remove dissenters from Stalin's rule and the public trails show that Stalin wished to be viewed as a justified leader. So Stalin censored their work and arrested them. The poet Osip Mandelstam was one such writer and was arrested for reciting his famous anti-Stalin poem Stalin Epigram to his circle of friends in 1934. Another example would be theatre director Vsevolod Meyerhold who was arrested in 1939 and shot in February 1940 for supposedly spying for Japanese and British intelligence.
