Our objective was to pick the best chemical to be used in a hand warm. This chemical had to be cheap, relatively safe, and must raise the temperature by 20oC and no more. We add 6 different chemicals to water we record the inshell temperature and then add one a the 6 chemicals to the water and record the temperature change of the water. We also add cold water hot water together to find how much heat would escape the calorimeter. We found that the calorimeter absorbed 71.1J/oC. Then this information to calculate the energy that was released by all of the chemical reaction.
The experiment conveys how the percent compositions of the sugar in the brand sticks of gum were different, even though the nutritional facts portrayed that the sugar content should have been the same. Based on the data, it is determined that Trident has a lower composition of sugar in the gum, in relation to Orbit. This is shown, as after 5 minutes of chewing the gum, the total mass of Trident dropped by .94 grams whereas the mass of Orbit gum dropped by 1.18 grams. The percent sugar composition in the Trident gum was 50% whereas Orbit had a sugar composition of
Symbolism is a notable feature in Catching Fire. Through symbolism , Suzanne Collins manages to paint Katniss as the ultimate embodiment of rebellion through transferring her into a mockingjay . " A mockingjay is a creature the Capitol never intended to exist"(92), as it is a result of the Capitol's usage of the japperjays which were sent to spy on the rebels. However, the japperjays failed in their mission so the Capitol left them to die ,but they managed to survive through mating to female mockingbirds . This proves that the existence of the mockingjays is an act of rebellion in itself , an act of defiance excuted by the Capitol's own invention , long before Katniss has been born. .
To summarize, the aim of the IA was to investigate how different colour marshmallows affects the calories (energy content) of marshmallows using different colour marshmallows, graduated cylinder, small aluminum can, glass stir rod, thermometer, and a lighter. Different variables were recorded throughout the experiment (ex. temperature, the mass of marshmallows, volume of the water, etc.). When the raw data was processed, and the error analysis was made, it was then discovered that the results were significantly different from the actual energy content value. The percent error of this experiment of between 92% - 93%. As mentioned previously, many uncertainties and/or errors may have swayed the results, thus leading to this discrepancy.
The diction of fire in Fahrenheit is pretty confusing because it's not just one word. There’s multiple words to describe fire that may even seem shocking because of the ways it’s presented. In this analysis, you’ll find that Ray Bradbury is taking fire to a whole other level. He’s not just describing the physical appearance, but also the literal sense of fire. By the end, Bradbury’s message will be clear.
In “From the Frying Pan into the Fire”, Arlie Russell Hochschild stated, “Capitalism is not, then, simply a system in the service of the family and community; it competes with the family” (188). People struggle using the capitalism system to balance time between family and work, because time is limited and people do not want to waste it living in someone else’s life. This can make capitalism to be somewhat ‘selfish’, because it focuses to how oneself’s own happiness and successfulness comes first; similar to how in “Strange Creatures”, Susan Blackmore describes memes to be ‘selfish’, since their sole purpose is to be copied, spread, and to be successful without a care on how it will affect us. There is other instances that capitalism and memes are further continued on to be compared in their similarities, one being how capitalism spreads similar to how memes spreads. To illustrate, capitalism
If someone were to give you a marshmallow and told you, if you do not eat it, then you get another one, what would you do? This is called the marshmallow experiment. The marshmallow experiment is an experiment that helps people have a better understanding of people’s mentality and their will power. This experiment was tested on kids, to see if they either ate the marshmallow or waited. They later found the kids that were used in the experiment while they were in high school and compared their grades and test scores from those who ate it and those who did not.
Thirdly, I used my smell directed at them. It was no smell excepted I can have smelled them soon as they were burned like chocolate with puffy muffin! Finally, put M&M candy in my mouth, and used my tongue. I felt my taste like very sweet as a chocolate with the peanut. It was very cold until melted into vanilla flavored.
"Powder" & "To Build a Fire" Compare and Contrast When people think of snowstorms they often think of destruction and disaster, but not many realize how such tragedies can bring others together. Both of these stories depict the feeling of friendship and the building of relationships in your mind. Since these stories are so similar but vary in a variety of ways, I find them so interesting to read. So with all being said, are you ready to get started? Jack London shows the growth of friendship through the man and the dog, whereas Tobias Wolff does the same.
Intro: General Statement: Link to Text and Author: Arguments: Thesis: As evidenced by Gordon Ramsay’s novel Roasting in Hell’s Kitchen, drive and determination are imperative to being successful. Paragraph 1: Actions Topic Sentence: Throughout his novel, Ramsay presents many actions that are essential to being prosperous. S: While it may be tempting to chase after a large salary at the beginning of a career, Ramsey 's first piece of advice tells one to initially settle for lower compensation in exchange for the opportunity to improve one 's skills. P: One example of Ramsay putting learning ahead of money is when he left Le Gavroche to work in Paris simply for the learning experience.
Thomas Bertonneau writes in “An Overview of ‘Barn Burning,’ “the price of wisdom is suffering, but the price of freedom, of whatever kind, is wisdom. . .” (Bertonneau 15). Though “Barn Burning” appears to be a strange story with little value at first glance, it actually withholds a great deal of significance. In fact, the story’s oddities contribute to its literary value when one carefully scrutinizes them. The grotesque elements create mystery, leading an audience to seek for a hidden meaning.
Also, salt is an ionic compound and not a polar covalent compound, even though it did not melt last, due to the fact that the elements Na and Cl, both lose or gain an electron and then bond because of their opposite charges, which is a property only ionic bonds possess. The wax was the only substance whose results were synonymous with my hypothesis, since it required a low temperature for its melting point and was not soluble in water, both properties of nonpolar covalent compounds. Potential sources of error included not labeling the spots each substance was placed in the aluminum foil boat, seeing as the result for sugar seemed to be the correct conclusion for salt and vice versa. A future experiment would involve individually testing each substance in an aluminum foil boat, of the same brand, on a heat plate in order to avoid uncertainty. Each substance should be timed to record the precise time each substance began to melt or burn.
What is the most important thing for people in nowadays society? The most realistic answer probably is money. Money is the key factor for the capitalism; the more money one person can make shows the ability this person maintain, and people also show their love to families through the amount of money they make, instead of the amount of time they spend on families. The issue of humans in nowadays is paying more attention to money and efficiency can be found in both Arlie Russel Hochschild’s “From the Frying Pan into the Fire,” and Susan Blackmore’s “Strange Creatures”. In “From the Frying Pan into the Fire,” Hochschild introduces the idea of capitalism, and people treat capitalism as a religion.
Burns Burns and scalds are damage to the skin caused by heat. Both are treated in the same way. A burn is caused by dry heat – by an iron or fire, hot drinks cause most burns and scalds to children under the age of five. A scald is caused by something wet, such as hot water or steam and, of course, children should be kept a safe distance away from open fires, cookers, irons, hair straighteners and matches, as these can be dangerous too.
Introduction: This lab report discusses an experiment to study the difference in the burn rate of various colored candles. The objective of this experiment is to analyse the outcome of burning 5 different colored candles including white under the same control variable for 60 minutes. The white candles used in this experiment are pure and no chemicals or dyes are added to it. They are normally made from paraffin wax with a wick in the middle.
