Aragorn, from the Fellowship of the Ring, and Sigurd the Völsung parallel one another. Aragorn is Isildur’s heir and rightful king of Gondor. He takes the sword that has been recast from the remains of Isildur’s sword into battle.“ Seek for the Sword that was broken: In Imladris it dwells; There shall be counsels taken. In the Lord of the Rings, the ring created by Sauron has to be destroyed because it is it has too much power. “Nineteen of these rings were made by the Elven-smiths of Eregion, led by Celebrimbor. These were grouped into three rings for the Elves, seven rings for the Dwarves, and nine rings for men. One additional ring, the One Ring, was forged by Sauron himself at Mount Doom” (Fellowship of the Ring). The ring leads each masters to his darkest side. Frodo himself begins to fancy the ring by the end of his journey. This is similar to the Völsung tail where Andvari curses the ring Loki takes from him because Loki wants too much power. The curse is meant to hurt the owner of the treasure this is stated in the curse “From this time forth that gold ring and all the treasure that accompanied it will be the bane of every being who possesses it: death and destruction will follow the gold as surely as night follows day and no one who owns it will remain untouched by its curse” (234). Loki becomes greedy once he realizes the power he has over Andvari this is evident when he is described taking the ring: “When and Andvari makes no effort to remove the ring, Loki grabs the ring from behind and pulled it from his finger satisfied the he had acquired every ounce of the treasure Loki released the dwarf”
