In chapter 12 of “The Hobbit” Bilbo uses certain types of weapons or abilities to his advantage while talking to Smaug. Although he almost gets burnt to smithereens he uses the ring to help him slip away from the dragon. He also uses physical abilities like creeping around silently and effortlessly, he also uses his knowledge about dragons and riddles to help him communicate and cope with the dragon.

In chapter 12 Bilbo uses the ring to his advantage by putting it on so he could steal the cup unnoticed by the dragon. For example in one of the paragraphs it states, “Then the hobbit slipped on his ring, and warned by the echoes to take more than hobbits care to make no sound.” This shows how Bilbo uses the ring to his advantage so the dragon doesn't see him. Another time he uses the ring is when he makes an offer to the dwarves that he will go back down to check if the dragon was still asleep, “Now I will make you an offer. I have got my ring and I will creep down this very noon—then if ever Smaug ought to be napping—and see what he is up to.” Once again he uses the ring to its advantage to check on the dragon to see what Smaug is up to. …show more content…
