Comparing Caught By The Sea And The Voyage Of The Frog

The short stories, “Caught by the Sea”, and “The Voyage of the Frog”, both by Gary Paulsen, share kindred experiences.”The Voyage of the Frog” is about a boat named the Frog traveling on the sea. While traveling he sees a blue-green light in the water then moments later a dolphin appears out of the water in front of the boat. The short story “Caught by the Sea” has someone describing his experience on the boat. When he was traveling along the coast he took a nap on his boat. Then an hour later he wakes up to fish surrounding his boat, then dolphins, sharks, and birds are there to eat the fish.

In the short story “Caught by the Sea”, Gary Paulsen writes about a man and his experience on the ocean with sea creatures. “...And within minutes a huge pod of dolphins, hundreds of them, showed up.” (Paulsen Pg5) This shows the dolphins surrounding the boat like in “The Voyage of the Frog” where the dolphin swam near the boat then jumped out in front of it. In “The Voyage of the Frog”, Gary Paulsen wrote “...The dolphin blew out of the water in front of the boat.” (Paulsen Pg5) This shows the mystical attributes and beauty of dolphins as well showing the dolphin was near the boat just like in “Caught by the Sea ''. …show more content…

The short story, “Caught by the Sea”, also has a similar sentence like this. “For a few seconds, half a minute, we moved on in silence by inertia, coasting from the energy of the motor…” (Paulsen Pg1) This relates to “The Voyage of the Frog” because this also describes the vastness of the ocean and how silent the boat
