Have you ever read a book and watched a movie based around the same idea, such as the main character getting stuck on an island? The Cay and Cast Away are exceptional examples of something like that. The main characters, Chuck Noland and Phillip Enright, are very different in many ways, but are also quite each other. In this essay, I will demonstrate the similarities and differences between Chuck and Phillip’s survival on the island, their relationships with their companions, and the changes in their life when they returned from the island. Their survival on the island was an enormous part of their development. Phillip became blind and had to survive on the island for months like that. Chuck may not have gotten blind, but he gained quite a few injuries. He also stayed on the island for four years, which was way longer than Phillip's stay. He also tried to depart from the island, but Phillip did not. Chuck also tried to commit suicide, which proves he went through a substantial amount of depression during his time on the island. Chuck and Phillip were, however, both alone on the island at some point and had to survive on their own. They both had to mostly use material that they found or that washed up on the island.
