Recently, we have read three individual poems that talked about death in their own unique perspective. All of the attitudes pertaining towards this scary and confusing topic are slightly different from each story, the author conveying their emotion on what many people fear of. Though being afraid of death is incredibly common, losing someone you care about deeply affects your mindset. ‘Annabel Lee’ describes a tale about a male losing the love of his life to the wind ‘chilling and killing’ her. Granted that this was definitely written for every woman that Edgar Allan Poe adored and passed away because of Tuberculosis, he also blames angels that turned evil from heaven in the text. Since the main character and his lady have such a beautiful and special relationship, some seraphs were jealous and coveted it. This man was fixated on his own theory for why Annabel Lee died, but in the end, his way of grieving transforms into a creepier and obsessive act rather than dealing with the fact that she is gone. ‘Incident in a Rose Garden’ gives you an interesting persona on how two men believe death’s form truly is. The speaker is inside his dark chamber around midnight, thinking of his lost love Lenore, before he hears tapping sound at his door and window lattice. Instead of a human visitor entering his room, it is a serious looking raven who at first amuses the speaker by his vocabulary only being one certain word: nevermore.
