In this paper, I will explain about revision in order to show how Donald Murray, Obert Skye, and Anne Lamott method of revision and how helpful it is. I plan discuss Donald Murray’s piece The Maker’s eye in order to show how the author’s method of revision is helpful. Also I will discuss Obert Skye’s piece The Magic Of Revision to show his method also on revision and how helpful it is also. And Anne Lamott’s piece Shitty First Drafts on her methods as well about revision. When I write my first draft, I assume that my essay is gonna be an amazing essay. By amazing, everything will be good and my purpose is still going on in my draft. My grammar will be perfect. But as other people read my draft, it’s not perfect. Donald Murray explains in his article that “The writer must learn to read critically constructively, to cut what is bad, to reveal what is good”. As I write my first draft, I’m the writer. I’m gonna write or type what I feel like is right. As I finish my essay, I become the reader. I am gonna read my draft as if it’s somebody else’s paper and take out what is needed and keep what is good. I have to see if all my information I provided in my essay is accurate with the purpose I am explaining. The second draft is the up draft -- you fix it up. You try to say what you have to say more accurately. And the third draft is the dental draft, where you check every tooth, to see if it’s loose or cramped or decayed, or even”. The first draft is the what I have typed the first time. The up draft is when revision comes in. It fixes all the mistakes such as grammar or any sentence structures. It also takes out all the information that is not needed in the draft. The third draft is where the final touch up happens on the essay. Everything should be finished, revised, and perfect for it to be finished. Lamott’s three step process helps out for revision because you do not have to do it all at once. She gives me a three step process to help break down the essay on her method of revision. In each steps, changes will be made a lot from what the original draft
