The Process of Writing People believe successful writers sit down and create papers within a blink of an eye. This is a perception. Anne Lamott had many conflicts as a writer. She revealed her problems with writing in her excerpt, “Shitty First Drafts”. Lamott trust that the only way she can get anything written at all is to write really, really shitty first draft. As a writer she stages that the first draft is the child’s draft. Also, Lamott believe that the second draft is the up draft (fix it up) and the third draft is the dental draft. A successful writer is defined by the writing process. Lamott described her writing process to help writers to overcome conflicts during writing. The first thing a writer should do is brainstorm. Brainstorming is the process of coming up with ideas. Lamott states, “Fantasy of the uninitiated” (para 1). Lamott means that without special knowledge or experience writers just write down everything on paper, all ideas, thoughts and emotions. This paper should be sloppy, with everything all over the place and misspelled words. These drafts no one will see it and it will give the writer a direction of where the writer wants to go.
