Mary Shelley was born on August 30, 1797, in London, England. She was an amazing author who wrote many things like her most famous work the novel “ Frankenstein”.She married poet Percy Bysshe Shelley in 1816. Later, she published her most famous novel, Frankenstein. She wrote many other books, including Valperga (1823), The Last Man (1826) and many others.She faced many challenges and hardships in her life but getting through them all made her a terrific author.
Mary was the daughter of writer William Godwin and famous feminist Mary Wollstonecraft also her mother was an amazing author.Mary never really knew her mother who died shortly after her birth due to complications from her birth.Mary knowing that her birth caused her death was very …show more content…

Her stepmother decided that her stepsister Jane should be sent away to school, but she didn’t think Shelly deserved to get an education like her sisters.Since she couldn’t get a formal education,she always read books from her father's library.She had a love for reading and was found many times reading at her mother's grave,Shelly found this the most peaceful and a great get away.Shelley also found a creative outlet in writing. According to The Life and Letters of Mary Wollstonecraft, she once explained that "As a child, I scribbled; and my favourite pastime, during the hours given me for recreation, was to 'write stories.'" She published her first poem, "Mounseer Nongtongpaw," in 1807, through her father's company.During the summer of 1812, Shelley went to Scotland to stay with a friend of her fathers. At that time he was still married to his first wife,so they would sneak around until he and the teenager Mary fled England together that same year.Jane Marys step sister went with them. Mary's actions alienated her from her father,he was so disappointed and upset.Mary and Percy Shelley traveled Europe for awhile. They struggled a lot financially and also faced the tragic loss of their first born child in 1815. Then Mary delivered a baby girl who only lived for a few days,this time was very hard for Mary and Percy losing their second child. The next summer, the Shelleys were in Switzerland with friends and some family .They all decided to tell ghost stories. Lord Byron thought that they all should try writing their own horror story. This is when Mary Shelley began work on what would become her most famous novel, Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus.Mary was surprised at the fact that hers was one of the best.Later that year, Mary suffered the loss of her half-sister Fanny who committed suicide.
