Mary Shelley wrote the book Frankenstein in 1816. She was 18 years old when she wrote one of the world’s most terrifying and enduring stories. In 1823, Mary published the book with her name on it. Unlike previously, it was published anonymously. Mary Shelley’s parents both died leaving her an orphan. Later in her teens, she fell in love with Percy Shelley, who was already married. She ended up marrying him and tried to have kids. All of them died but one. While staying in Geneva, Mary and a few people found themselves stuck inside during bad weather. They then decided to have a competition on who could write the best horror story. This is when Mary got the bright idea of Frankenstein. There are a few similarities between the old movie and the book. Similarities include characters, mood, and plot. Even though there are numerous differences. The plot follows the basic skeletal structure of a scientist obsessed with bringing a body back to life, stopping at nothing to achieve his goal. One difference is that the characters aren’t completely the same. In the movie, Henry and Victor are switched. Also, in the movie, Frankenstein has a lab assistant named Fritz, unlike in the book. Another difference is when Frankenstein brings the creature to life, he wants to keep it. In the book he abandons the creature. In the movie, the creature kills Fritz and tries to kill Frankenstein. The creature does not kill Elizabeth in the movie but does in the book on their wedding night. During the movie, William, Justine, nor Walton were portrayed. The setting in the book took place in Ingolstadt and the movie took place in Golstadt. Also, Frankenstein did not try to keep his creation a secret in the movie like he did in the book. In the end of the movie, the townspeople burn the creature and in the book Victor dies from exhaustion and the creature
