During my visit to Whitney Museum of American Art located in New York, I had opportunity to saw two works the most talented and prominent painters of twentieth-century, “the Seasons” painted by Lee Krasner and “Woman and Bicycle” made by Willem de Kooning. Both authors belong to the group of artists who had lived in a time of abstract expressionism. Kooning in his work presents a woman and bicycle. To create this painting he used oil, enamel, and charcoal on linen. We are able to notice a curly line painted by using brushstroke. Warm colors make this picture more vivid and energetic. She has shown a various forms of plant most of them reminds flowers during their process of blossoming with brightly colors. Over time, I was able to notice the purpose of Krasner’s work. She presents garden with a beautiful plant who wake up to a life. Also, those plant may symbolize the brevity of life. From other perspective, Williem de Kooning in his work “Woman and Bicycle” uses contract color such as: green, red, blue and yellow makes a picture disharmonious. On this painting, the author presents a woman with vivid color on the front and cold color in the background. He focuses on the woman’s body especially breast, hips and face with staring eyes. Personally the woman’s face remains me an African mask very similar to the Picasso’s work“ Les Demoiselles D’ Avignon. Looking at the Konning picture I can feel an example of violence how he treats a body’s woman. Instead, a portrait of beautiful Venus we can notice broken body far from ideal. During my way to get to know closer Koonig’s career I ask myself why the figure of a woman dominated on the majority of his work? Did he paint all of this women picturing own mother?
