As the Inman trudges on up the mountain, with Stobrod to his right and Ada on his left, the snow starts to take a toll on them. Inman shivers as he looks over his shoulder to see that he’s not the only one quivering. Stobrod is taking the turn for the worst. He only has two layers of clothes on, and that doesn’t seem to be enough. Inman, without gloves, looks down at his hands. They are starting to turn purple.
