Most people have the feeling of jealousy sometime during their life. While having this feeling of jealousy many people will try to achieve what they are envying, however, in return they may be acting appallingly. Despite the fact that people are hurtful to her, she realizes that they are not worth her worrying because, in the end, they are just envious of her. During “Mean” and “All Summer in a Day” symbolism is used to show the theme that jealousy causes people to act in terrible ways. As written in the song “Mean”, “And swords and weapons that you use against me” This passage says “swords and weapons”, however, she really means something very different. Taylor Swift is actually referring to is how violent the words of the bully are. Therefore, it clearly expresses that these “swords and weapons” are symbols to show how harsh and cutting the words and actions the person speaks are to the narrator's emotions and self esteem.
