Today's time's sources of knowledge are available everywhere and in multiple different forms, to educate and are used massively by society. Having the drive to be better than others and to be superior is normal, everyone's curiosity is fed and it's less likely to not get an answer to a question with a proper explanation. Despite that, what if these two were to play the opposite role as they do in society? Where firemen are responsible for igniting fires instead of putting them out they don't care for human lives and are to burn down everything related to literature. A society in which books are put on the same scale as loaded weapons. Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, is exactly how things are. Books are banned and are to be lost sight of, the fire department aids and is in charge of burning all books. The government classifies literature as an unessential source of knowledge while creating the illusion that they are preserving society. Firemen are oblivious to how they are regressing society by using fire to be highly oppressive, as well as giving individuals the wrong idea of an ideal society. As a result of this; firstly, firemen burn books and don't care what or who is in the way; the pleasure they find in burning literature overpowers giving a single thought to how much destruction they are causing to society. Through censoring and television, society manipulates its citizens. Every home has a large television screen which has replaced the family, these screens give the people of the home news and everything they must know. Resulting in everyone in society having the same amount of information. Because they give people more knowledge than they should know, books are banned. “A book is a loaded gun in the house next door ” (58). The priority of life is similarity or rather equalization.
