Comparing Medieval Cruelty In Medieval Japan And Europe

Both medieval Japan and Europe were majorly developed countries in their era. They had amazing architecture to design castles, fearsome weapons and a mass army but with all these features which one was safer? Before gathering any knowledge I produced a hypothesis on my thought about the previous question. My hypothesis states exactly that, “I believe that it would be safer in medieval Japan. I have created a list of criteria which I will break down to help support my hypothesis” Throughout this assignment I have learnt a handful of medieval vocabulary and her are some of the words:
Medieval: Medieval is referring to middle ages and the medieval period is the time from 5th to the 15th period.

Both eras were very cruel in the way the law worked, the cruelty in the punishments and the way the peasants and lower status people were treated. But which was the cruelest place to be? After gathering the research, I have come to a conclusion that in the presence of cruelty in both places I would much rather be in Medieval England to escape getting executed, boiled alive, decapitated, being burnt alive, getting sawed in half or being one of the two hundred thousand people being executed in just Tokyo alone. The medieval period was violent and bloodthirsty. People introduced legislation to increase punishments. Torture chambers were present in most castles. Laws did not state the methods of torture or how violent or fatal the torture could be. People with different statuses and criminal records would receive different punishments. In medieval Japan it was much more bloodthirsty. Serious crimes such as murder were punishable by death. A way to be killed would be to commit Seppuku. There are three steps to committing Seppuku. First you stab yourself in the stomach then you cut a zigzag pattern through your insides and then a samurai would chop off your head to limit your pain. In Tokyo alone over two hundred million people were executed. The shogunate executed criminals in different ways with most of them being very cruel. They would burn them alive, crucified them, decapitated them and sawed them in half. There were many unfair punishments in medieval Japan. Samurai could kill someone and not get into trouble and would only get punished if they killed too many people and they wouldn’t get a severe punishment as peasants would.
