From Perseus to Percy, the changes are bigger than you would think. Percy Jackson draws on the legend of Perseus by changing some of the characters to fit a more modern time zone instead, the quest was also slightly changed. It transforms the legend b modernizing the theme and whole story to be more appealing to kids of this day and age. That is why I think the film Percy Jackson and the story of Perseus are more similar than different.

First, we are going to talk about the modernization of the story. One of the big things that were modernized was the whole environment being set in the late 2000’s. Percy Jackson is more of a classical hero he is really just a normal person except the he has one big power which is the fact that he is a demigod. For every demigod the big power that they have could be different for example Percy in the film is the son of Poseidon which mainly gives him the powers of water, but in the story of Perseus he is the son of Zeus his powers would be in the area of lightning and things close to that. Perseus’s hero type would be the same but in that story he get a lot of help from the gods instead of using his powers. But even if he didn’t use his powers that would still make him a classical hero with his courage. Also in the normal world Percy is just a normal student in high school. Perseus is just a normal person also when he was growing up except the fact that he was a demigod. Both of Percy and Perseus have the same hero archetype which is the prodigy. The protector in Percy Jackson “Grover” would be more of an catalyst hero because he is the mentor of Percy.
