Comparing Sir Gawain And The Loathly Lady

Sir Gawain from “Sir Gawain and the Loathly Lady” demonstrated qualities

that make a good friend . Sir Gawain was a man of honor who adhered to what

was right. Through the story he showed love, beauty and sacrifice. Sir Gawain

gave a positive message of not judging people by their appearance and looking for

their inner beauty. As a friend one quality that I look for is that he would be there for

me , no matter what. The fact that he accepted the challenge by saying “Take me

to her.. I will marry her tomorrow” { pg: 179 }. without thinking he shows that he was

brave enough to volunteer himself to marry the Loathly lady. His qualities showed that

His spirit never struggle when he putted his mind to something he

wanted to do. He is loyal to his king and a brave young knight. Even thought he had

to marry a ugly lady he never considered what he thought, but what the king

thought. Not backtracking his words meant a lot to me because I was able to see

that he will be there for me in both good times and bad. After the king described her

hideous form or even when he saw her with his own eyes he still wanted to grant the

quest “I beg you, let defend you” {Pg 179} he wanted to show to his king that

nothing else matter more than him. I admired that he was always the first to put his

courage to the test without knowing what he must do shows that Sir Gawain is the

type of person I want as my friend.

Aside from loyalty, honor and other Sir Gawain showed the religious values. As

Christians he had to follow the chivalry code and the legendary tale of the knights of

the round table . In this absorbing story his courage and chivalry are tested to the

full when he sweared to serve the honors of his king by marrying the loathly lady.
