People always look back in the past. The Tell-Tale Heart and Ambush are two stories that look back on their main character’s actions. The Tell-Tale Heart, by Edgar Ellen Poe, is a riveting story in which the protagonist talks about how he kills a man. In Ambush, by Tim O’Brien, the main character also talks about how he kills a man, but he is more regretful about it. The tone and mood of the two stories are similar and it affects the way the readers understand similarly.

The monkey, paw has horror and the suspense was the supernatural events going on in the story. In these three paragraphs I will talk about the suspense, fear, and surprise in these two stories.
Planning a murder is much worse than no plan, and “Tell-Tale Heart” was planned while “Lamb to the Slaughter” wasn’t planned. Also, a murder has to have some kind of motive, but the only motive in “Tell-Tale Heart” was his eye and how it annoyed him while in the other story her husband was going to leave her. In the United States English college classes, the students are still learning about horror/mystery stories. According to “Darkecho.com”, horror/mystery authors are not entirely "nice". Devil worship and baby-eating are sometimes considered daily fare for authors of dark fiction; they are assumed to never wear anything but black. The two main stories from my English 1002 class is “N” written by Stephen King and “Tell-Tale Heart” written by Edgar Allan Poe. Edgar Allen Poe is a well-known poet and author, who was born on January 19, 1809. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Poe quickly learned the hardships of life, as he was born into poverty and later became orphaned. His father abandoned him at a very young age and following, his mother died of tuberculosis. Poe was moved to a foster home with John and Frances Allen, which with whom he lived with for most of his childhood. Though was never adopted by them, he had a close connection with them, especially his with foster mother that he loved immensely.
There are many similarities between the play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare and the short story ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ written by Edgar Allan Poe. In the play Macbeth, the protagonist makes many bad choices by killing a lot of people. Those choices end up destroying him. Likewise, in ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ a madman, who thinks he is not mad, kills the old man he is working for. He tries to cover it up but the guilt is too much for him, much like Macbeth.

Both of the short stories are about revenge, murder and madness. The narrators of both the Tell-Tale Heart and the Cask of Amontillado have very different motives for committing the murder each of them commits. In The Tell-Tale Heart, the narrator is insane and his motive behind killing the old man is that he cannot stand the sight of the old man’s “vulture eye”. He is tempted to close the eye forever, and so he does this by murdering him.
Gothic genre was very popular during the early 19th century. The style of stories from gothic genre are often associated with mystery, horror and sadism. Overall is about a prince who thinks he is invincible, while having a party one night a mysterious guest appears and all the party-goers are very frightened of him. In the end this red death man kills the prince along with many other people at the party. This story became more horrific because the setting was in a castle, there was supernatural elements, and there was revenge.
