The American Dream: the ideal that, through hard work and determination, any US citizen can achieve prosperity and success. During the 1600’s, a Puritan man named John Winthrop wrote a sermon called “A Model of Christian Charity”. In 1851, an escaped slave named Sojourner Truth gave a speech for the Women’s Convention in Ohio. There’s a large gap between these two events, but they both tie together in the formation of the American Dream. When compared, Winthrop and Truth share the same ideas as the American Dream, and are connected to the formation of the American Identity.
