Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a story that talks about why Santiago Nasar died and how he died, it also includes love. Santiago Nasar was killed because he took Angela Vicario’s virginity. Angela’s virginity being taken was known because on the night of her wedding with Bayardo San Roman. Bayardo had come from a very wealthy family and was searching for a wife while Angela came from a rather poor family and needed this marriage. Angela’s family needed this marriage and for her to be taken back home for not being a virgin made her mom angry. Angela’s mom had beaten Angela for hours and her twin brothers had asked her who took her virginity and she had told them it was Santiago Vicario. Angela had started to miss Bayardo and started to write him letters. Both Gil Vicente’s epigraph and Chronicle of a Death Foretold convey the idea that when looking for love you chase it.

When Bayardo brought Angela back home, he was instantly on her mind. Soon enough Angela started to write Bayardo “weekly love letter(s) for over half a lifetime” (Chapter 4, page 94). As Angela was writing the letters she realized that “love and hate are reciprocal passions.” (Chapter 4, page 92). This figurative language describes how Angela loved Bayardo but she also hated that she felt this way and had to chase after his love. Angela’s love and hate being reciprocal means that as her hate from the feeling of missing Bayardo increases so does her love. Angela writing love letters to Bayardo is her looking and chasing love from Bayardo. Her writing letters expresses her feelings and her wanting Bayardo. The way she chases for Bayardo is through her letters because she wants him to know that she does want him back. This event conveys the idea that when looking for love you chase it, by her her chasing Bayardo because she is looking for and wanting his
