The leader I chose is Paul “Bear” Bryant. He was an American College football player and coach. Paul was best known for being longtime head coach for the University of Alabama football team. He was born in Moro Bottom, Arkansas and attended Fordyce High School, then went on to attend college at the University of Alabama. After graduating from the University of Alabama, he was offered a job as an assistant coach there and went on to coach the University of Alabama football for 4 years.

A moral grey area is the only thing separating those making positive changes and playing judge, jury, and executioner. Commendable yet unreasonable, leaders’ whose sole purpose in life is to fix what they see as wrong with the world fall prey to thinking there is only ally or enemy. They harm those they are trying to liberate in the long run. This is the downfall of leaders in many works of literature, including Harrison Bergeron and The Lord of the Flies.
Throughout Ken Kesey’s, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the balance of power is challenged in the psychiatric ward. Out of the several leaders that appear in the novel, Nurse Ratched and McMurphy are the most prominent. During Nurse Ratched and McMurphy struggle for power, they share many of the same qualities. It is argued that: “McMurphy and Ratched are alike in intelligence, military service, distinctive (if opposite) clothing, and conventionally masculine qualities” (Evans). These small similarities; however, do not distract the characters from fighting for their individual beliefs.
Lincoln on Leadership Lincoln on Leadership is a book that describes Lincoln and all his characteristics that made him the important leader this country needed at a time when we were separated based on the actions of war. After reading the Donald T. Phillips book Lincoln on Leadership, the book demonstrated four key areas that produced an effective leader in Lincoln. These areas are character, people, endeavor, and communication. The first key area in Lincoln’s Leadership was his interaction with the people of the United States. An example of how Lincoln worked well with people is the way he would talk to his generals.
The book Lord of the Flies by William Golding is about leadership but at the same time there is a lot of drama. Jack sets his priorities of having fun and hunting pigs, but Ralph is the complete opposite. Ralph is the kind of leader that thinks about the people first for example, he wants to build shelters and keep a fire burning for a sign of rescue for nearby ships. Both Ralph and Jack make excellent leaders, but they have different styles and different priorities. Ralph displays useful human qualities as a leader by working towards the good in the boys society.

Robbins & Judge explain that the performance of a group is directly dependent upon the match between how a leader governs and how the quality of a particular situation gives the leader control. Leadership Thought Prior to 1900 The earliest study of leadership thought would be the “Great Man Theory. This theory conceptualized leaders as a single “Great Man” who knew everything and influenced others to follow him. In leadership discourse, the Great Man theory—an assertion that certain individuals, certain men, are gifts from God placed on earth to provide the lightening needed to uplift human existence—is associated mainly with Thomas Carlyle (Spector, 2015, p.250). The focal-point of this theory is that leaders’ skills are inherent and set that them apart from those around them and that these traits enable them to assume roles of power and authority.
Leaders come in many different shapes and forms. Some leaders only care about the business and task at hand, some leaders care too much for their employees, and other leaders have a great mix of both worlds; those are the types of leaders to have in every company. Leaders need to be fully invested not only in the business to succeed, but they need to make sure their employees are taken care of just as well as the company. Within this paper will discuss the reasons that leaders need to be involved not only within the business, but with the employees too. Being a leader in any capacity can be without a doubt a most challenging feat. If he possesses this behavior a team member will be more confident and trust him to do what they decide. Integrity is important behavioral trait which a leader should follow.
This theory is one of the first studies that concentrated on situational factors and the relationship between leadership and organization effectiveness. Fred E. Fiedler who noted his findings from his study in his book Theory of Leadership Effectiveness (1967) contended that if an organization made an effort to achieve team effectiveness by using leadership then it was necessary to assess the leader with respect to underlying traits, assess the situation the leader is in and find the similarities between the two. Fiedler noted that the attitudes of leaders needed to be considered and developed a scale that could be used to assess these attitudes.
