From the qualities discussed in the article, this learner possesses qualities one and two. As seen quality one explains that effective therapists have a sophisticated set of interpersonal skills, including verbal fluency, interpersonal perception, affective modulation and expressiveness, warmth and acceptance, empathy and focus on other. I have displayed these characteristics in both my personal and work life and would like to say that these traits come naturally. In fact, I can recall as a child my mother acknowledging me for my warmth and acceptive personality. My mother would always say, “kay have never met a stranger”; which I knew she was only referring to my ability to connect and form relationships with others. I use my interpersonal perception to better connect with clients and give meaning to some of their most disturbing actions and characteristic. For example, I worked with offenders who have committed crimes which includes but is not limited to murder, robbery and child neglect. If I was unable to formulate a form of reasoning or empathy for these clients, this could lead to ineffective treatment. I am fully aware that I am not a judge, and my job involves helping to restore one’s inner self or acquire a level of self-sufficiency. Furthermore, having the therapeutic quality of affective modulation and expressiveness help me to further effectively communicate with clients. These two traits I would say are gained through years of experiences. As noted, quality nine explains that the effective therapist does not avoid difficult material in therapy and uses such difficulties therapeutically. I have not quiet developed this quality in my work life. In fact, I find myself shifting a more difficult task to another therapist or avoiding that area of discussion. For example, a topic which I have dealt with personally and could possible lead to countertransference during a session. However, in my personally life I do not have this problem. I do not avoid difficult subjects with friends and family. I guess because I can respond without the fear of showing emotions.
