The lowest animal by Mark Twain main idea was to point out that humans are savages. While A time of gifts by Stephen Gould was to show the reader that humans can sometimes do great things and sometimes the good things out does the bad things. So the two authors have different points of view about mankind. Mark Twain thinks that humans are slaved to animals because animals try to survive no matter what problem is in the way. While Stephen thinks that there is so much good in the world it doesn't matter how much bad there is. Mark Twain wanted the reader to know just how bad humans were at the time. He also wants to show the difference between animals and humans. He believes that animals should have higher value than humans they have reason.
