The author Laurie Anderson has altered the description of bush hill in her book Fever 1793 from the book An American Plague. Fever 1793 is a historical fiction novel about a young girl living in Philadelphia, trying to survive the yellow fever. The book An American Plague is a nonfiction text, written about the time and people during the yellow fever epidemic. Bush Hill was an abandoned mansion owned by William Hamilton, and was taken over by the governor of Philadelphia, who turned it into a hospital ward for the sick.
The Plague It was a dark day for Gregory Thomas, he just lost his mother to the terrible sickness that was taking over his very small village. The village he lived in had very strict rules, the King didn’t want anyone to know anything. He barley let anyone have freedom to have of their own opinions, Gregory hated that because he was a very curious child, he also hated where he lived, it smelled really bad because people used the bathroom outside and butchers would throw the parts they didn’t want outside. McNeill goes through history, starting before the dawn of civilization until shortly before the eradication of smallpox (the book was published in 1976). McNeil distinguishes between “microparasites” and “macroparasites”. Microparasites are tiny organisms (such as viruses and bacteria). Macroparasites are larger predators such as animals or, more usually, other humans and governments.
