“The Hitch Hiker” is a radio play by Lucille Fletcher and a teleplay made by the Twilight Zone. In the radio play a man named Ronald Adams is traveling from Brooklyn to California. As he starts his journey to California he sees a hitch hiker step into the road. He quickly swerves out of the road to avoid the strange man. He continues to see this hitch hiker throughout the story and eventually becomes worried. In the teleplay a woman named Nan Adams is traveling from New York City to California. On Nan’s journey to California she gets a flat tire and stops to get help. She notices a creepy man hitchhiking and keeps on seeing him as the story continues. This causes Nan to become worried and anxious about who the hitch hiker is. As you can see the stories are similar but there are also many differences. This is a similarity because both Ronald and Nan are traveling from New York to California. The second similarity I will be talking about is how both characters felt towards the hitch hiker. In the radio play Ronald describes the hitch hiker as a strange and weird man. In the story he can’t figure out why the man is following him and starts to get an eerie feeling. In the teleplay Nan has a weird first experience with the hitch hiker. As the story continues she becomes more frightened and wonders why the man is following her. The last similarity I will be talking about is the feeling that Ronald and Nan both got when they realized the hitch hiker was death following them. In both stories when Ronald and Nan realized they had died they felt calmer and more at peace. Both characters stopped worrying because they realized that they couldn’t outrun
