The “Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” is more than just a fictional play. William Shakespeare wrote about differences that keep people separated due to family beliefs. Romeo and Juliet came from a family that despised each other because of a feud. Whenever the two families saw each other, they would always end up in a fight. Friar Laurence was not part of any feud and he tried to help Romeo and Juliet. Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Laurence hoped for the same result. In the end nobody got what they wanted.
William Shakespeare has been considered one of the most successful writers of all time. This brilliant man was born in 1564 in a small village called Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Surprisingly, Shakespeare was thought to have very little education during his childhood. Shakespeare fell in love with Anne Hathaway who was the daughter of a farmer, married her in the year of 1582 and they had three children. “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was published in the year 1597, which led to Shakespeare’s popularity growing tremendously. Juliet did not have any control over her marriage partnership. Juliet’s father, also known as Lord Capulet, decided who her husband was going to be. Juliet did not care about her father choosing her husband until the day she met Romeo. Romeo and Juliet, had married secretly, causing a big problem. Juliet exclaimed that she did not want to marry her father’s choice Paris, because of her love for Romeo. Juliet says, “Now by the Saint Peter’s Church, and Peter too, He shall not make me there a joyful bride! I wonder at this haste, that I must wed Ere he that should be my husband comes to woo...” (Act 3, sc 5, line 116-119 ) This argument motivates Juliet to drink the potion that makes her appear dead like the Friar insisted.
