George’s Decision In John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, two men, Lennie and George, travel through California 's Central Valley looking for work. Lennie and George have a special bond because George takes care of Lennie, who has a mental disability. When Lennie accidentally kills a woman and is being chased by men who want to kill him, George is faced with the difficult decision of whether to kill Lennie himself or let those men kill him. In the end George chose to kill Lennie.
In the end of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Lennie accidentally killed Curley's wife after she would not stop screaming for him to let her go, George knows that there is not any way he can get out of it. Even if they were somehow able to escape, Lennie is unable to keep himself out of trouble and therefore will never be safe. If Curley were to find Lennie he would lynch him, making his death agonizingly slow and torturous. George killed Lennie to spare him the agony that he would have had to face either at the hands of Curley or due to his inability to care for himself.
We read Of Mice and Men in English class recently. The two main characters are George Milton and Lennie Small. Toward the end of the book, Lennie gets into trouble for murdering Curley’s wife; George did the proper thing and executed him. First, Lennie should have known that murder is an awful thing, even if he was mentally challenged.
The way that George killed Lennie was a quick and unpainful way. If he had not shot Lennie in the back of the head, things for Lennie would have been much worse. Even Curley says, “When you see ‘um, don’t give ‘im no chance. Shoot for his guts. That’ll double ‘im over” (Steinbeck 97).
Movies that have a dramatic scene are more attractive to watchers. In Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, the final dramatic scene is where George shoots Lennie in the head. George shoots Lennie to save Lennie from Curley. In the book, when George killed Lennie, is a more open area with greener grasses and taller weeds and bushes.
Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck in the 1930s, is about how two migrant workers, George and Lennie, who search from place to place for a job opportunity during the Great Depression. George is described as Lennie’s best friend and caretaker. Lennie has a mental disability and has a hard time controlling his own strength. George’s decision is to secretly kill Lennie because of the massive crime he committed by killing the boss’ son's wife. George’s decision brings up a very controversial issue of mercy killing, which is considered an important issue.
In the novella, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, George’s decision to kill Lennie at the end of the novel was justified. George and Lennie were best friends, and have been since they were little. They got ran out of Weed(the old farm they used to work at) for harassing a girl and not letting her go. He was just scared from her screaming and kicking. He didn’t mean to harm, or scare her.
If your best friend jumped off a bridge would you do it too? A man’s best friend is his dog and in Of Mice and Men, Lennie receives a potential best friend, his puppy. In this story, we see numerous connections between characters, for example, Candy and his old dog, how Slim is a friend to his workers, and Lennie with his puppy. These connections are also similarities. In life, you create a connection with someone and you can gain similarities with them and through this they can potentially have the same fate .
The most controversial point in the entire story was the fact that George killed Lennie. “He pulled the trigger.” (page 106) Now the reasons for George doing it are understandable. He knew that if it wasn't him, somebody else would kill Lennie, possibly making him suffer before he died.
This Presentation is about my view on Of Mice and Men. The book is interesting with all the different characters and learning about what they do all day. So I would suggest, read this review and then read the book. I hope you enjoy it. I liked the beginning of the book
In Scarseth's review of "Of Mice and Men," he claims that overall it is a Tragedy but a book worth teaching. To support his claim, he argues about the function of literature, the limitations of Steinbeck's characters, and the purpose of using certain elements from that time period. To start, Steinbeck defends his claim by discussing the function of literature. He writes, literature is "not mere sugar candy," and is not only meant to be vicarious. I agree with him and believe it is important not to sugar coat things and give the exact truth when necessary.
In “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck, George made the right decision in shooting Lennie because Lennie did not know his own strength. Another reason is If George did not kill Lennie others would have killed him. However, the other side might argue that Lennie did not mean to kill Curley’s wife, thus he deserves to live. George should have killed Lennie because Lennie did not know his own strength, that is the reason why he killed many things by accident and caused many problems. “Why do you got to get killed?
Friendship is something everyone needs to survive. Without friends, there is no one to look to in times of need; no one to support you . In the novel Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, it is clear that George and Lennie are best friends who always stay together, even though their relationship is strained. But sometimes, friends must do what is best for the other. Due to this, it is clear that George was justified in killing Lennie at the end of the novel.
Imagine a dog being hit by a car, and say whether it should be left or saved from suffering until death. Now compare that to John Steinbeck’s novella mice of men with Lennie, George, and Curley. Lennie being the dog, George being the “relieved suffrage”, and Curley being the suffrage. George shot Lennie preventing him from being tortured by Curley. John Steinbeck author of “mice and men” did not say whether he was punished or not leaving it up for the readers to decide.
At first it is important to say that the novel is more than just a story of two workers, it also deals a lot with friendship, loneliness, big dreams and living as a minority. So the story tells something about the society at this time and how people are prejudiced against f.e. black people. Moreover it fascinated me how these two completely different characters, Lennie and George, stay together and how they support each other in a world full of people who are alone and have no perspective for their future. You are always included in the story in a way, because you feel and suffer with the persons, so you are riveted by the book and you just want to know if their big dream becomes real or if a mistake will destroy their hopes.
