Introduction The Joint Terrorism Task Forces and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Fusion Centers are two crucial intelligence-gathering programs in the United States. Both programs play a big role in preventing terrorist attacks and other criminal activities, such as drug and weapon smuggling. As a member of the Homeland Security Assessment Team for our organization, we will attempt to build a program that will allow us to meet the goals of our business plan as well as the needs of our Homeland Security Assessment that we will create from the results of our evaluation of our organization (Fisher, 2004). We will utilize the Baldridge Criteria to combine our two-goal seeking areas of our business plan as well as our Homeland Security Assessment goals that we are identified at the conclusion of our Homeland Security Assessment. When we do our Baldridge Criteria measurements of our organization we will be able to determine the areas of our organization that we are already protected from weaknesses and vulnerabilities; and will be able
The article “The Lessons of Civil Defense Federalism for the Homeland Security Era” by Patrick S. Roberts has a huge focus on civil defenders and how the Homeland Security has a role with them. The whole creation of the civil defense era was first established in the 1970s when World War II was happening. The civil defenders are mainly designed to help with safety procedures such as volunteering, working with both local and state organizations and having a role with both fire and flood safety to keep people safe from these emergencies. To add on this is that, the Civil Defenders plays an important part for natural disasters. The reason is that they were able to a lot for the Homeland Security so they can have the ability to be prepared and

Imagine if you lived in a place where you had no freedom, and you were ruled by a man like Joseph Stalin. That is what it would be like in many countries if it weren’t for the United States’ policy of containment. During the Cold War, the Soviet Union wanted to take over other countries and make them have the government system of Communism. The United States didn’t like that, because they thought their governmental system of Democracy was better. As a result, the U.S. adopted a policy of “Containment”.
Throughout history and even today, the United States continues to be a key power in world affairs. This was not the case during the early days of the United States’ construction when the country was establishing its foundation of government and organizing the country’s policies and procedures. One of the many documents written for this purpose was the Monroe Doctrine. This lesser-known document paved the way for the current foreign policy that we have today. However, our current policy has changed drastically from the original document as the United States has grown in world power.
In accordance with the 2014 Quadrennial Homeland Security Review, the terrorist threat is one of the prevailing challenges that pose a significant risk level to the United States as well as to American citizens abroad and many U.S. allies (Department of Homeland Security, 2014). In the United States, the Federal Government assumes the responsibility for leading the efforts that seek to manage the risk level of the terrorist threat. That is why the Federal Government has created the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), whose main mission is to prevent terrorist threats by managing their risk levels (DHS, 2014). Since the terrorist threat is a very complex threat to manage for one entity or agency alone, the DHS is able to accomplish its main mission by working in partnerships with many federal agencies; State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (SLLTT) Governments; private and public organizations; international partners; and communities all across the United States (DHS, 2014). In all of those partnerships, the Federal Government through the DHS plays a leadership role
After the Revolution, the immediate crisis was a national government. Congress felt the need of a powerful central government was crucial to their survival from Great Britain. Even though the war was over, the settlers felt as if they might always have a need to be stronger than their former foes. In my opinion, they probably thought that the bad blood between them and Britain would always pose a threat to their new found freedom and independence. Because of this, their next step was a big and strategic one.
In 2002, Canada followed Homeland Security of United States and came up with an immigration plan. The bill was called “Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.” The focus of the bill was to stop people entering Canada and seeking asylum who will endanger the safety of the Canadians. The bill introduced strict law for people who will try to put the life of Canadians at risk. The law allowed immigration to remove people from the country who may pose a threat to the country.
Which is why the New Look foreign policy was created by President Eisenhower and his Secretary of State John Foster Dulles due to the event that occurs before, as well as the event that is occurring during that time around the
e mission of the department of homeland security is “to secure the nation from the many threats we face. It will examine how the current constraints play a role in homeland defense and defense overseas, the tensions between competing interests of homeland security and international support. Finally, how the U.S. can best balance their requirements against the limited fiscal constraints. How We Protect the Homeland Until the terrorist acts of September 11, the U.S. military focused their efforts overseas to fight and win wars; we have since changed the way we do business. The 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) emphasizes the Department’s first defense strategy to protect the nation. The Department of Defense (DOD) will deter and defeat attacks on the United States and to support civil authorities in potential attacks and natural disasters.”
The Cold War did occur after WWII between the United States and The Soviet Union at the time of President Ronald Reagan administration. The Soviet union and its government had the ideology of spreading communism around the world. The United States was against communism and this why the country went to war with Vietnam. "Containment" was the ultimate goal by the U.S. to preventing communism from happen worldwide. My perception of the Cold War and the War on Terror is due to the lack of the United States government to understanding other countries language, culture and way of life.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was founded in 2002 in response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon to prevent any future threat of terrorism that even slightly presented danger to American soil. Congress passed the Homeland Security act in 2002 which absorbed every agency at the time who was working in, “Response to disasters caused by terrorism, natural hazards, or technological hazards” (Haddow 331). Among other agencies, the DHS assumed responsibility over other agencies who presided over the borders and ports as well as those responsible for immigration and citizenship. After reviewing the Brief Documentary History of the Department of Homeland Security, there is not one mention of natural disasters
