There are fundamental differences in family values between China and Canada. China has a special understanding of the value of family within the context of a culture that has been in place for thousands of years. This system of education provides students with a great deal of knowledge and skills (Wu, 2023). Every family will educate their children in such a way that they are exposed to difficult subjects from elementary school and compete with all their classmates in the test. Children who receive high grades are considered to have a promising future. Nevertheless, such a concept of education is very different from Canada, where the focus is on individualized education and parents encourage their children to explore their potential. Children are not only expected to receive knowledge, but also lessons in their individual interests, such as sports, arts, and socialization, so children grow up well-rounded in a low-pressure environment. Today, free "marriage markets" have appeared in many urban parks in China. This is to help parents find a suitable mate for their children. What's more, most Chinese people are influenced by the traditional concept that it is immoral and irresponsible for children to live together before marriage. Such behavior can destroy the harmony and stability of the family. And after marriage, women will become the more caring party in the family, while men will take more responsibilities in the family (Wong, 2014). In the Canadian concept of marriage, parents do not make too many decisions about their children's marriage. They do not interfere with the emotional orientation of their children because of their age. Cohabitation before marriage is more common in Canada because it allows men and women to get to know each other and make each other more comfortable with their future lives.
