Little Red Cap vs. Hoodwinked The Grimm Brothers, Jakob and Wilhelm grew up in Germany in the 1800’s. The brothers wrote Little Red Cap in 1884, since then, specifically in more recent years, there has been a need for a recreation of the story, commonly referred to as Little Red Riding Hood. Little Red Riding Hood is about a young girl who is taking a basket of goodies to her grandmother’s house when she encounters a wolf. In order to make the Grimm version more child-friendly and adapted to the time period, a cartoon rendition called Hoodwinked was released in 2005. These two version have differences including characterization, plot, and setting. The main character differences are the wolf and the grandma. The wolf in Little Red Cap is someone who is looking for a meal. Once he lures Red away from her trip to her grandmother’s house, he goes there, eats her grandma, and then proceeds to eat Red when she arrives. Though Red and her grandmother are eventually saved and the wolf is filled with rocks, the reader still knows that if it weren’t for the huntsman who saved them, Red and her grandmother would have died and the wolf would have left full, only to do the same thing again. In the movie Hoodwinked, the wolf is entirely different. He is a reporter who is only looking for someone with knowledge on the local criminal who has been stealing recipes. He stalks Red through the woods because he believes she could either be the thief or know the thief. On the other hand, the grandmother in this adventurous story, Granny Puckett is a risk taker, and an adrenaline junkie. Red seems to be oblivious though, because she isn’t aware of her grandmother’s antics. Granny Puckett is known to ski, skateboard, and skydive throughout the movie.
