“George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie’s head… He pulled the trigger” (Steinbeck 106). George ended up killing Lennie in fear of what was to happen to him in Of Mice and Men by George Steinbeck. George and Lennie are two migrant workers, and best friends, travelling looking for a job. Based off what the reader knows about Crooks from chapter four, the reader can infer that he would be the kind of person to join the NAACP. The reason for this is because he believes that African Americans do not receive the same things that whites do. In the text it states, “‘ This is just a nigger talkin’, an’ a busted-black nigger, So it don’t mean nothing, see? [...]
Of Mice and Men Essay Of course money and power is something so great to have, people often get caught up in their own world of making themselves happy that they forget about family and true friends that are much greater than money and power. Money and power comes and goes, while friendship can stay for a lifetime. Money and power is hard to get and even harder to keep it, while friendship is easy to find and easy to keep forever (Compound). Money and power will leave you lonesome and make you somebody you’re not just to please people, while friendship has somebody there to comfort you anytime, make you believe in yourself and bring the good out of you even if that means sacrificing a lot. Friendship is far superior than money and power ever was (simple).
Do you think a person would put there self’s in harms way and get close to a stranger. Hear of someone being murdered by john Steinbeck. Men of mice there are two men they travel and she gets mixed up in it badly. Curlys wife is to blame because she provoked it and put herself in that situation. Curlys wife is being nosy and she doesn’t need to put her nose into everything.
Of Mice and Men is a novel written by John Steinbeck. The novel, which takes place during the Great Depression, begins beside the Salinas River near Soledad, California, where two migrant workers, Lennie Small and George Milton, are walking on their way to a nearby ranch. There are a few statements that I chose to either agree or disagree. I agree that killing another human is intolerable. George should not be punished for killing his best friend Lennie.
The adaption of Of Mice and Men author John steinbeck was made into a film in 1992 and directed by Gary Sinise. Of Mice and Men tells the story of the bond between two characters. Steinbeck is a great actor, In 1939, Steinbeck won the Pulitzer Prize for The grapes of Wrath. I think John steinbeck effectively showed the theme Friendship and loyalty push us to make tough choices.
John Steinbeck was a very powerful writer during the Great Depression who wrote many short, yet dense stories describing the struggles people faced during the 1930s, especially the book’s The Pearl and Of Mice and Men. One similarity that is found in both of these books is the theme of pursuing a dream, however, the stories differ when it comes to the element of characters. Although Steinbeck’s writings were masterpieces, their main purpose were to give a voice to the ones in poverty. Both books tell compelling stories about two men, George from Of Mice and Men and Kino from The Pearl, who have their future in their hands, but unfortunately lose almost everything.
In the play Of Mice and Men Lennie and George were the main characters. Lennie is mentally handicapped, and George was taking care of him. George and Lennie are people trying to find a job. They are best friends, and though George says he wanted to be alone, he would never want to live without Lennie. The costumes in the play really showed what time period the people were in, and I thought that they were made very well.
In the novella, Of Mice and Men, the author John Steinbeck illustrates a ranch in the 1930’s during the great depression where those who fit into mainstream society run the show, and those deemed “outcasts” are rendered useless. Steinbeck depicts characters with setbacks that diminish their value in the eyes of society, and contrasts them to characters that have no difficulties conforming to the norm. Crooks, being a black man isolated by his race, and Candy, a elderly man limited by his age and missing limb are examples of Steinbeck characters that experience hardships because of the differences. The poor treatment of Crooks and Candy by the other characters, and their chronic unhappiness in a place that doesn’t value them, comments on how
Of Mice and Men contain a lot of dramatic and overwhelming content. The author might have wrote the book this way to show that times are rough but you can still dream, and i say this because Lennie and George don't make too much money but they still have a picture of the house in their heads. The author has a good way of building up the characters but he doesn't give the reader much of a visual. He doesn't describe who they are or where they came from, but he has a good detail from where they are going and why they had to move. There are a few symbols that stick out to me and probably more readers but crooks is one, crooks is a black man who gets treated like crap just because of his color.
Julia Goldberg Mr. Aubry Response Paper #1 11/11/14 In the book Mice of Men, Curly has a very high level of power, because he is the son of George and Lennie’s boss giving him higher power then the two. Also, Curly has the intimidation of coming off as tough because he used to be a lightweight fighter but, still likes to pick fights. In the beginning of Mice and Men, we are introduced to Curly.
The essence of humans’ true desires are three simple, alluring words: power, riches and fame. Three words, which put together sound dark, yet enticing. Take that away, and humanity is left with nothing but the company of one another. No heterodoxy exists, and everyone is left contented. This, however, is impossible in reality.
A work of literature that has unsettled me is Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. This caused me to stir with strong unsettling emotion because of the way that the novel ended. Near the end of the story, a mentally deficient man, Lennie accidently murders a young woman. He was simply trying to quiet her. She was so scared from his attentions that she had started screaming.
