In 1928, the first T.V. show The Queen’s Messenger aired. Since then, television has flourished and still continues to grow. Eighty-seven years ago, shows consisted of one genre and only lasted a couple of episodes. Only the classic drama, comedy, romance, action, and adventure genres existed. Today, television shows portray a little bit of every classic genre and some new ones. Game, put-your-hands-up, science fiction, and medical shows consist of a few of the on television. Game shows are the ones that maximize mental engagement. These shows will have a “teacher” that asks questions or hosts the show. The put-your-hands-up shows are about the dramatized lives of cops. These shows solve crimes by figuring out what happened, who committed the crime, and the motive behind it. Basically all the put-your-hands-up shows fit into the same plot line, but the area upon which the crime happens in is different for each show. For example, in NCIS the show happens around the death of sailors. In Rizzoli and Isles, crime in Boston makes up the show. These shows blew open a whole new type of scary, creepy monsters to have nightmares about. The creators of these shows try to make the monsters seem as real as possible. The existence of the monsters fits in with stories and tales told in reality. Normally these shows will have anywhere between three to twelve seasons. Not only do these shows have sci-fi genres, but also romance and drama are intertwined throughout all of the seasons. In Supernatural, the main characters live their lives as hunters who travel around the United States hunting demons, angels, and any other creature the show’s creators can come up with.
